Snack time is at 1:05. You are invited to bring your child’s favorite book in to read to the classroom if you would like to!

Reading Bag Books/Homework
Your child will bring home books from the classroom. . Please listen to your child read the books send it back to school the next day. It may be replaced with another book or I might have them reread it again for another night.
I do like the children to read 15-20 minutes every night with an adult listening.
In this packet there are different strategies you can say to help your child if he or she gets stuck on a word. I try to stay away from saying “Sound it out” do to the fact that many words do not sound like they do when you sound them out. Please see the handout…later you will see your child have a bookmark with these strategies on them.
Your child will not have a weekly spelling test, however a set of words will go home every quarter for your child to practice. They will have a pre-test and a post test. During the week we will be doing activities with these words so they will become more familiar with them.
Take Home Folder Please check and take out papers from your child’s take home folder nightly. Important information comes home all the time. If your child has a note from you they will be taught to place it in my blue bin by the door.

If you have any questions on how your child is doing please contact me and we can set up a time to meet. We do have one mandatory conference in Oct. however; please do not hesitate to meet with me concerning your child’s progress in first grade.
